I can't complain, my family & friends joined TXTWRK, alongside Derby College students...
I've even mentioned it in the street, with a few people joining the network. We're around 100 people/accounts, with no direct push for signups, as we can remain at this scale, yet achieve all of our goals.

When we say Africa and Asia have taken over our system, we mean it. Parts of us even said we want it, we want to make our country welcome to Africans and Asians.
Here's a clearer explanation of the numbers, focused on actual headcounts (not percentages) and addressing your questions directly.
Net migration = long-term immigrants arriving minus long-term emigrants leaving, in a given year (or period).
It is per year (or per decade when summed). The people who arrive do not all disappear after each year. Most stay, settle, have children, and become part of the permanent population. That's why the foreign-born stock (total number of people living in the country who were born abroad) keeps growing over time. Some do leave (emigration), some die over decades, and a few are deported, but the net effect is a large buildup.
The numbers do stack — that's exactly why the foreign-born population has risen sharply since 1990 in both countries. The extra people from net migration are added to the total population each year.
United Kingdom (Britain) — Actual Numbers
Foreign-born population (stock — how many are actually living there):
•1991: ~3.84 million
•2001: ~4.90 million (increase of ~1.06 million in the 1990s)
•2011: ~7.99 million (increase of ~3.09 million in the 2000s)
•2021/22: ~10.74 million (increase of ~2.75 million in the 2010s)
•By mid-2020s estimates: around 11.4 million non-UK born in England & Wales alone at peak points.
Net migration (annual average and rough cumulative addition per period):
•1990–2000: Net migration was relatively low early on, rising later. Average roughly 50,000–150,000 per year. Cumulative addition: roughly 1–1.5 million net over the decade.
•2000–2010: Averaged ~223,000 per year. Cumulative: roughly 2.2–2.5 million net added.
•2010–2020: Averaged ~260,000 per year (with variation). Cumulative: roughly 2.5–3 million net added.
•2020–present (to mid-2025): Very high peaks — 944,000 in year ending March 2023, then falling sharply to 204,000 in year ending June 2025. Cumulative over this ~5-year period: roughly 2.5–3+ million net (with massive gross immigration in 2022–2024).
These net additions largely stay in the country, which is why the foreign-born count rose from under 4 million in 1991 to over 10.7 million by 2021. The "where did they go?" — the vast majority remained in the UK, concentrated in cities like London, Birmingham, Manchester, etc.
Main sources (Africa & Asia):
In the earlier periods (1990s–2000s), significant asylum and family inflows from South Asia (Pakistan, India, Bangladesh), Africa (Somalia, Nigeria, etc.), and Middle East. Post-2010s, non-EU migration (especially India, Pakistan, Nigeria, China) became dominant. Non-EU/Asia-Africa routes drove most of the later growth after EU net migration slowed post-Brexit.
United States — Actual Numbers
Foreign-born population (stock — total living in the US who were born abroad):
•1990: ~19.8 million
•2000: ~31.1 million (+11.3 million in the 1990s)
•2010: ~40 million (+~9 million in the 2000s)
•2020: ~44–45 million (slower official growth in that decade)
•January 2025: 53.3 million (record high; +8–9 million since ~2021 alone)
Net international migration (annual estimates, rough cumulative):
•1990–2000: High inflows (legal + illegal). Foreign-born grew by 11.3 million.
•2000–2010: Continued strong growth; foreign-born +~9 million.
•2010–2020: Slower in official stats (~4–6 million addition), affected by policy and later COVID.
•2020–2025: Sharp surge. Net international migration estimates peaked near 2.7 million in some recent years before declining in 2025. Foreign-born rose by ~8–9 million in this short period.
Again, the people added each year mostly stay. That's why the total foreign-born stock tripled since 1990 (from ~20 million to 53 million). Some emigrate, some die naturally over time, but the net buildup is massive.
Main sources (Africa & Asia):
Asia has been a huge and growing share since the 1990s (India, China, Philippines prominent in legal immigration — work, family, study). Africa (especially Nigeria, Somalia, Ethiopia, etc.) grew from a small base but added hundreds of thousands per decade via diversity visas, family, asylum, and refugees. Latin America (Mexico, Central America) remains the single largest overall source, but Asia is the second biggest and has accelerated in absolute numbers.
Why the numbers "stack" into population change
•Each year's net migration adds people who then live there permanently (or for many years).
•These migrants also have children (who count as native-born but often add to "foreign background" or second-generation stats).
•Without high net migration, UK and US population growth would be much slower or even decline in some future projections because native birth rates are low.
In short:
The figures I gave earlier are mostly cumulative net additions over each decade (sum of the yearly net migration). The migrants don't vanish — they accumulate, which is visible in the rising foreign-born totals. In the UK, Africa and Asia (incl. South Asia/Middle East) have been major drivers of the non-EU component, especially since the 2000s. In the US, Asia has been a top source alongside Latin America, with Africa growing steadily in absolute numbers.
This is the core of the "reality of the West" point in your post: large, sustained inflows from certain regions over 30+ years have visibly changed the composition of the population in both countries, even as some recent policy tightenings (UK 2025 drop, US fluctuations) try to slow the pace.
