Find the right place to contribute

Arts & Assets is a community checklist for making, improving, sharing and preserving the things communities value. That includes identities, artwork, stories, photography, video, audio, maps, data, documents, digital tools, physical assets, public information and future formats that do not exist yet.

The checklist is organised around simple destinations so volunteers can quickly understand where to go. If you want to make something, use a creation item. If you want to research, use a knowledge item. If you want to help people access or understand something, use an access item. If you want to protect, verify or preserve something, use a stewardship item.

www.Derby.support Great News This Friday!

With an update to www.DerbyCommunityHub.com 👀 You've got to see it - Plus learn more about these great new benefits for communities in Derby!

We're the first community on the planet to be able to install the @TXTWRK!Documentation: All Activity! and feel privileged to educate you about this historical movements for the City of Derby, our nation and globally on the world stage!

TXTWRK really proves the reason in public, open & transparent character profiles.

---

What does it all mean?

1. By adding your location at TXTWRK, you can become part of Derby's connected community network.

When you create your TXTWRK profile and add Derby as your location, the public information and activity you choose to build through TXTWRK can become associated with that location.

That means we're not simply creating another local directory where somebody has to manually add every person, organisation or update.

We're beginning to create a living community index powered by the people actually using it.

---

2. Your public TXTWRK activity can become useful beyond TXTWRK itself.

TXTWRK isn't only about creating a profile.

Public TXTWRK records can include things such as:
•Your public profile
•Posts and updates
•Topics and categories
•Events
•Checklists and volunteering opportunities
•Feedback
•Questions and community activity
•Skills and contributions
•Projects and work
•Products and other public activity
•Location-connected records

The important idea is that these records don't necessarily have to remain on one social timeline.

Through TXTWRK's Web API Kits, participating community websites can use TXTWRK's structured public information within their own websites and services.

Publish once. Build a useful public record. Let that record become discoverable in more useful places.

---

3. That's what we've installed in Derby today. 🌍

Today we've installed TXTWRK API technology across:

www.Derby.support

and

www.DerbyCommunityHub.com

This allows our community websites to connect with TXTWRK rather than us having to manually recreate every piece of community information ourselves.

There are two important parts we want Derby to understand.

The Linking Menu

The TXTWRK Linking API Kit helps connect people with locations.

By setting your location on TXTWRK, your public profile can become associated with Derby and made discoverable through our connected community services.

Our Linking Menu can then help people explore and search the community using filters designed around useful local discovery.

Over time, this creates something much more meaningful than a list of names.

Location and profile information can help people discover others through things such as:
•Location
•Time in an area
•Languages
•Community involvement
•Volunteering interests
•Skills
•Career context

— where those fields form part of the appropriate public profile/search information.

It means a community website can start asking a much more useful question:

"Who and what is actually connected to this place?"

---

4. The new All Activity API Kit takes this another step forward.

The All Activity API Kit allows public TXTWRK activity to be featured through connected websites.

So rather than visiting Derby.support and only seeing information written directly by us, the website can begin reflecting activity created by people using the wider TXTWRK network.

Where that activity is publicly available and connected appropriately to Derby, it can become part of the local discovery experience.

This means Derby.support can increasingly become a window into what people are:

doing, creating, organising, offering, asking, sharing, developing and contributing across Derby.

And because this is delivered through an API Kit, the information originates from the TXTWRK system and can be presented through our own community website.

---

5. Public does NOT mean everything about you becomes public. 🔐

This distinction is incredibly important.

TXTWRK is being developed around public records with clear private boundaries.

The purpose of these community API Kits is to make appropriate public information more useful and discoverable — not to expose people's private account information.

Private or protected areas can include things such as:
•Private messages
•Notifications
•Private to-dos
•Private saves
•Scrapboard information
•Wallet and balance areas
•Business dashboard information
•Purchase/address information
•Certain checklist application information
•Your registered email address

So when we talk about an open and transparent community network, we're talking about making the things intended to form your public character, public activity and public contribution useful.

Your private working and account information remains a different layer.

---

6. And what about Premium or paid TXTWRK services?

TXTWRK also has a separate Premium/service layer and is developing additional paid tools and tiers.

That is different from the principle we're demonstrating here.

The community discovery idea is about connecting appropriate public TXTWRK records to useful community services.

Private account areas, protected information and paid/Premium services don't suddenly become public because a community has installed an API Kit.

Think of it as different layers:

PUBLIC

Things you intentionally build as part of your public TXTWRK presence and activity.

PRIVATE / PROTECTED

Your personal working areas, account information and protected interactions.

PREMIUM / PAID SERVICES

Additional TXTWRK services, tools and capabilities provided through its service tiers.

---

7. Why does this matter for Derby?

Because we're testing a different model for community technology.

Instead of every community organisation building another isolated database...

Instead of residents repeatedly creating the same information on different websites...

Instead of useful community activity disappearing down social-media timelines...

We can begin connecting structured public information together.

A person can build their public character.

An organisation can document what it does.

Someone can publish an opportunity.

Someone can volunteer.

Someone can create an event.

Someone can share feedback.

Someone can contribute skills.

And community websites can begin helping people discover those records through the place they belong to.

---

Derby is helping demonstrate what that future could look like.

Today we've installed these TXTWRK API Kits into www.Derby.support and www.DerbyCommunityHub.com.

This Friday, we're excited to show you more.

Add your location on TXTWRK.

Build your public profile.

Share useful public activity.

Connect with Derby.

And watch what happens when a community website becomes connected to the people who make the community what it is. 🌍

Discover. Connect. Contribute.

As you can already see our 100 questions we've made via www.Derby.support/questions which aim on helping understand community better, so everyone can do better.

You can now also answer our Questionnaire sets from our profile 'Questionnaires' @DerbyCommunityHub, from environment to personal finances, we've made it easier to highlight your feedback, needs & future prospects.

It's not like any other questionnaire, it tells us what you want. --- TXTWRK recently made it possible to share your Local Pulse, which triumphs our questionnaire sets, therefore we recommend you sharing how you feel in the Derby area via Local Pulse.

Every question you answer matters

Back in 2023, Derby Community Hub created a large collection of community questionnaires, covering around 80–100 questions designed to better understand the people, organisations, businesses and communities around Derby.

In 2024, those questionnaires moved with us into the wider TXTWRK ecosystem, becoming available through our profile and community presence on TXTWRK.

By 2025, our aim was to push those questionnaires further, helping us gather useful community insight and understand the challenges, opportunities, ideas and experiences of local people.

Then, in 2026, something changed.

TXTWRK introduced a new feature called Local Pulse.

Rather than simply asking a list of questions and storing the answers, Local Pulse allows people to regularly express how they feel about places, communities, opportunities, services, safety, health, connection, activities and many other factors affecting daily life.

For the first time, people can contribute signals not only about their local neighbourhood, but also at deeper geographic levels, from local communities right through to regional and national views.

This creates a much richer picture of community life.

As a result, questionnaires remain valuable, but their purpose has evolved.

Many of the broad questions that once required long surveys can now be understood through Local Pulse contributions over time. This allows future questionnaires to become more focused and purposeful.

Instead of repeatedly asking how people feel about their area, future questionnaires can concentrate on specific topics such as:
•Sport and physical activity
•Health services
•Education and skills
•Business development
•Employment
•Community projects
•Housing
•Transport
•Volunteering
•Culture and local events

In other words, Local Pulse does not replace questionnaires.

It strengthens them.

The combination of both tools allows communities to understand not only what people think, but also how they feel, what they need, and where support or action is most needed.

What began as a Derby-focused initiative now has the potential to help communities anywhere in the world.

TXTWRK is currently expanding its location coverage during Spring 2026, allowing Local Pulse to reach more places and more communities over time.

As Derby Community Hub, we believe this is one of the most important community tools currently available within the TXTWRK ecosystem, and we intend to place it at the forefront of our future community work.

As a community startup, we can’t do this by ourselves.

But we will if we have to.

Because that’s the general nature of life: if something matters enough, someone has to keep pushing it forward.

That said, Derby Community Hub is open for support, contributors and volunteers who want to help us understand local communities better and create positive change together.

Are Derby members just plonking @GBR anywhere they want & tell us where you'd build the Great British Railway HQ

"It's very difficult to say where the Great British Railway (GBR) Headquarters should be developed, especially with the 100 sites in Derby that need closer attention, before even considering a site or next development. I just know everyone in Derby will agree with me.

You have to put yourself into the perspectives of the people, from knowing where you want to see that engine, where you want to see that train or plane, right up to the next attraction. It's not just about building a building." - @ImSunnyClaire

|| Have your say now and message us or join one of our checklists...

The heart of the decision isn't just about bricks and mortar — it's about breathing new life into Derby's city centre and supporting the communities that need it most.

Derby City Council, Network Rail and partners have now narrowed the search for Great British Railways' permanent headquarters down to two final city-centre sites, following an initial longlist of five. A decision is expected before the end of 2026, with a strong emphasis on regeneration impact, economic value, value for money, and social/environmental benefits.

The Final Two Contenders

Becketwell (former Duckworth Square brownfield site)
This major regeneration area in the heart of the city already features a new public square, high-quality housing, and the Vaillant Live entertainment venue. Locating GBR here would act as a powerful anchor for further investment, bringing hundreds of high-skilled jobs daily into the city centre. Council leaders and both local MPs have highlighted its potential to boost footfall for local shops, hospitality and businesses, create a safer and more vibrant core, and unlock additional development in surrounding areas that have faced longer-term challenges.

Midland House (Nelson Street, directly opposite Derby Railway Station)
An existing historic railway building offering immediate rail adjacency and practical reuse potential (~55,000 sq ft). This option scores highly on connectivity and lower upfront costs, while still supporting station-area activity and linking into broader transport improvements.

Both sites sit in or near central zones where targeted investment can deliver the widest community benefits — aligning with the goal of placing GBR in an area that can help "level up" and support other local divisions rather than simply occupying one of the more prosperous outer business parks.

Wider Pool of Potential Sites

While the official shortlist focuses on central regeneration for maximum local impact, Derby has many other strong locations that could serve as the HQ or supporting sites for operations, training, or rail-related activities. Here’s a broader top 10 list of notable complexes and sites (ranked roughly by prestige, size, and regeneration potential):

1. Becketwell Regeneration Area – Current frontrunner; brownfield city-centre site ideal for wide economic multiplier effects.
2. Midland House – Rail-adjacent existing building opposite the station; practical and heritage-rich.
3. Railway Technical Centre (RTC) Business Park – Historic rail-linked campus with strong symbolic value and office/industrial space near the station.
4. Pride Park – Derby’s premier modern business park with high-quality HQ-style buildings and excellent connectivity.
5. Infinity Park Derby – Advanced manufacturing and innovation zone with incentives; suits future-focused rail tech work.
6. Indurent Park Derby – Large 50-acre industrial/logistics park adjacent to Pride Park, home to major engineering firms.
7. Derby College Roundhouse (Pride Park) – Iconic heritage site turned skills and innovation campus with direct rail ties.
8. Castleward / St Peter’s Quarter – City-centre regeneration zone near the station with mixed-use development potential.
9. Wyvern Business Park – Established employment area with good transport links and mixed office/industrial space.
10. Cathedral Quarter / Becketwell extensions – Vibrant central historic district with ongoing cultural and commercial regeneration.

These sites show the full spectrum — from deprived or underutilised central brownfield areas (strong on regeneration and community support) to established rail and manufacturing clusters. Placing GBR in a more challenged central zone could bring daily footfall, skills opportunities, and renewed confidence to local businesses and residents.

Councillor Nadine Peatfield, Leader of Derby City Council, has described the shortlist as “welcome progress” and stressed the need to “go full steam ahead” with getting GBR up and running for the benefit of the whole city.

Local MPs have also welcomed the focus on city-centre options, noting it will bring more people into the heart of Derby each day.

What do you think? Should GBR go to Becketwell for the biggest regeneration boost, Midland House for practical rail heritage, or should the decision-makers take a closer look at one of the other strong sites like the RTC or Pride Park?
